Never forget the Alamo

After a night of margaritas on the San Antonio Riverwalk, we woke up in our lush Hilton hotel and got ready to visit the Alamo. Since it was the fourth of July, the Alamo was popping. There were reenactments, cornhusk doll making (my fav) and FREE watermelon!

Medical tools from back in the Alamo days.

A friendly Alamo actor showing us guns and Bowie knives.

Robbie clearly loving the guns.

Apparently gunmakers back in the day would measure your height and make a gun that fit your reach.

Right before taking the picture, the actor told Lauren that she had to turn the Bowie knife to show the camera how thick it is. He then told us that James Bowie would use the knife to "disembowel his opponent" (his words, not mine). Gross.

Another fun fact about our actor friend: he was in The Alamo move (2004).

Here are the boys trying out the gun.

Free watermelon!

Overall, I was impressed with the Alamo. I'm glad we went on Independence Day.

Next up, we went on a river boat to learn more about the Riverwalk. It was nice to cool off on the boat. Texas is dang hot!

Another fun fact: did you know that Texas is the only state that's allowed to fly their flag as high as the U.S. flag?

We ended with an early dinner at La Magarita. I had our leftover beef fajitas yesterday for lunch and they were delicious!

We drove back to Austin and at about 9:00 at night Robbie and I heard pops and bangs were outside. It was at that point that we realized that we were missing the fireworks because we were fourth of July-ed out.

I can't wait to go back to San Antonio. I heard Christmas time on the Riverwalk is spectacular!

Happy Friday, y'all.
